September 28, 2018 Rocky Mountain Way

We've been planning this trip to Colorado for most of the year and today is the day we flew to Denver with our nephew Kennedy. After lunch at Wahoo Fish tacos, we stopped at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

This land was an arsenal for decades. So the visitor center has the full history on display. This photo is for my Decay Devil friends.

We drove along the 11 mile loop road. We were so excited to see these two bison. Later on the drive we saw two huge bison herds off in the distance.

Chrissy got a good close up of this bison.

There were prairie dogs everywhere. This one ran into his tunnel quicker that I could take a picture.

At different times, either the sun was out or storm clouds were closing in on us.

I liked the ground cover color around this prairie dog.
Chrissy got a few good photos of these fat but elusive prairie dogs

We saw this flying V and thought it was sandhill cranes. After turning off the radio, we heard that familiar trilling sound and confirmed they were sandhill cranes migrating south.

We stretched our legs with a short hike around Lake Mary...

...with a floating boardwalk over the water.

On our way out we saw deer...

...and finally got a closeup of a prairie dog.

We ended our night at my friends, Nick and Mary's house. We caught up on the past couple of years since I last saw them over a delicious dinner that Nick cooked. There's nothing I enjoy more than sitting around a table eating and drinking with friends and family...a very close second is hiking and seeing wildlife. This was a great day.

  1. Great way to start off your Colorado trip. The photos are a great picture view of the cool things you got to see. I know visiting with friends & catching up topped off an already good day.
