A strong wind out of the north and temps in the low 60's...winter is coming. But today was a beautiful late summer day for a walk on the beach.
I am someone who loves spending time with friends. But months seem to go by so quickly before I realized it has been that long between visits. We had a blast with Tom & Laurie in Cleveland back in June. That was over three months ago. Since we started the summer together, it makes sense to me that we are ending it together with an afternoon hike at Mount Baldy.
It has been a busy weekend so we brought the dogs along.
There were decent size waves and very little beach today.
The sound of the surf...
...turquoise water and blue skies make this paradise to me.
We walked east toward Michigan City.
Somehow the slanted horizon, the curves of the surf, the high water lines on the dry sand and the glossy wet sand make me love this imperfect picture.
Nola loving the cooler temperatures and walking on the beach.
This is what makes a walk on the beach so special. We walked together at times and we had some solitude to enjoy the moment as we pleased...except I love photographing people enjoying the outdoors in their own special way so even private moments become public. Sorry Tom & Laurie.
Oslo leading the way.
The water level is so high that the compressed sand at the base of the dunes really got exposed here.
Both dogs were a bit afraid of the waves today.
The sky was perfect for photos today.
Time to relax...one the reasons I enjoy the beach.
When Oslo stops to rest, we all stop.
We hiked off the beach along this access road near the NIPSCO plant.
Nola have fun with the deep water and tall grass along the metal break wall.
Chrissy & Oslo heading back to the beach.
You can see how much sand is flowing off the beach...
...and into the lake.
Nola after a dip in Lake Michigan.
Oslo enjoying his favorite place to be.
It was chilly but the sun popped out several times to warm us for a few minutes.
Laurie was happy we brought the dogs, so she walked with Oslo on the way back.
Once again, We had a wonderful time with Tom & Laurie. After our hike, we had lunch at Bartlett's. It didn't seem like it, but for more than two hours we ate and talked about upcoming trips, music, politics and where we should get together next time. I think we settled on New Orleans. This should be fun. I can't wait to see my friends in the Big Easy.
