December 8, 2016 Camping at Joshua Tree National Park

When I decided to visit my parents in California, my first thought was to spend a night at Joshua Tree. Then my brother said he would too. Then my sister-in-law Marcy decided to join us. Then my cousin Patty said she would meet us out there. So George, Marcy & I drove out to Joshua Tree this morning. We are going to camp here tonight at Black Rock Campground.

Marcy & George setting up their tent.

Both of our tents set up...

...time for lunch then a hike in Black Rock Canyon.

The park's namesake tree.

We hiked up the Black Canyon Trail which had several trails crossing it.

It was a beautiful day for a hike in the desert.

The scenery along our hike.

The setting sun lit the canyon perfectly for photographs.

After the hike my cousin Patty met us at the campsite...

...and we drove out to Pappy & Harriet's for dinner at a pretty cool roadhouse.

Then we sat around our campfire for about five hours catching up, telling stories, looking at the stars...

...and playing with long exposure shots while using flashlights to light up one of the trees. Even though the temperature drop to 40 degrees, I loved spending the night outdoors with my family. Thanks George, Marcy & Patty for joining me at Joshua Tree.
