I got up early and took the dogs for a hike at Marquette Park because the forecast is calling for rain later today. The Fun Bunch Three got here before 7am and dark clouds were over Lake Michigan.
Here's Yeti leading the way to the beach. There is a bunch of debris along the path that has washed up here.
Almost like a literary metaphor, the sun trying to break through the clouds seems perfect for the dark days we've had since the latest coronavirus has changed the world.
It is amazing that tree trunks this size have washed 35 feet up the shore. Nola and Yeti stopped to smell everything.
I was the only one impressed with the clouds over the lake.
The clouds and the sun were battling it out above us...
...but the dogs were only interested in getting a cold drink.
We walked east toward Wells Street Beach because I loved how peaceful this view made me feel.
My hiking partners were happy to be on the beach. They both love our hikes everywhere, but easy access to water is their favorite especially when it gets warmer.
Even though it was a very calm morning for our hike today, the evidence of recent rougher days was everywhere.
The dunes along the beach in this area have been washed away. The only thing left is the long-buried dune grass left broken off on the beach.
Mother Nature always fights to stay alive.
Someone's attempt to protect the dunes.
One of the lifeguard stands didn't make it through the winter.
The sky to the west showing signs of blue.
The dogs were like me this morning...just enjoying a stroll on the beach with no one else around.
They even stopped when I kept saying "wait a minute, just one more picture".
Yeti was all over this debris pile. It was mostly clumps of dune grass mixed with garbage and tree trunks.
The sun never won its battle with the clouds while we were on the beach.
I was going to walk to Well Street Beach but Yeti wanted to take this trail off the beach.
So up to Oak Street, we walked and headed back toward Marquette Park.
Then Yeti saw this trail back to the beach...
...so here we are walking west on the beach.
I've said this many times, these walks are therapy for me. The rest of the world doesn't exist when we walk alone on these beaches and I love that feeling.
I kept looking for Tom Hanks after seeing this volleyball on the beach.
This sign at the butterfly garden says May Peace Prevail on Earth in several languages.
We walked past the car into the main park area.
The sun lost its battle with the clouds today.
While we circled the park on foot, we saw this sign in several places along the road.
Since the dogs and I will not see our moms today, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.
