September 6, 2017 Twillingate Islands Coastal Trails

Our day did not start at Tim Hortons. It started with a wonderful breakfast at the Hill Road Manor. We sat for over two hours talking with the other guests like we were old friends. What a great way to start our day. We stopped here just to get this picture for my hockey teammates back home.
We stopped here because Newfoundland has a great sense of humor or the word dildo describes something else up here.

We spent the morning driving up to Twillingate. We stopped here because it was on Christy's list of places to eat in Newfoundland.

Unfortunately, they were out of lobster. But we still had a tasty lunch.

And we stretched our legs by walking around and taking pictures.

We finally made it to Twillingate. Then we drove out to Durrell to go hiking.

We stopped at Browneys Cove for a quick look around.

Then we hiked the coastal trail from French Beach, up to French Head, then down to Spiller's Cove.
We decided to do this hike today because the weather was perfect and rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. We did a lot of great hikes but this was easily the my favorite hike in Newfoundland.

It started with a climb over a giant rocky outcrop...

...that ends up on French Beach. We hiked across the beach...

...then back up the cliffs for the rest of the hike. It seemed like the view changed every few feet along the trail. Hopefully these pictures capture just how incredible this hike was to me.

There were some hard climbs but it was worth it for the beautiful scenery.

Look closely because Chrissy is on the cliff to the left.

Looking back toward French Head...

...and looking forward to Spiller's Cove.

Because we started late in the afternoon, we didn't have time to continue on to Codjack's Cove. So we hiked back to the shortcut across to French Beach.

After checking into the Captain's Legacy B&B on Twillingate Harbour, I decided to relax on the beach chairs.

We had drinks before dinner at the Anchor Inn Pub. Then we had a delicious meal at Georgie's Restaurant. On our way back down to the pub this Harvest Moon was huge across the harbour.

The entire bar emptied as everyone took pictures of the moon...

...then we all settled back in for some drinks and live music.

This sign in the pub pretty much describes a perfect day for me. It is exactly how we started and ended our wonderful day in Newfoundland. A big thank you to every stranger we met today that treated us like old friends...what's that Louis Armstrong...yes indeed...what a wonderful world.
