July 8, 2016 Taking a Break From Being an Adult at the Denver Zoo

"Oh maturity's a wrapped up package deal so it seems
And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams
All your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will
Have to grow up be an adult yeah be bored and unfulfilled
Oh when no ones yet explained to me exactly what's so great
About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate
Look I'm meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity
Well if that's your road then take it but it's not the road for me
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up" - Photosynthesis - Frank Turner

I spent the last few days enjoying my time in the Rocky Mountains. Besides hiking every day, I purposely did not watch TV or search out any news. Late last night in Denver, I caught up on the news. Once again I went to sleep wondering what happened to my country.

The next morning I decided to spend the day at the Denver Zoo. While watching the sea lions, a little kid standing next to me was ignoring his mother as she called him. When I said, "hey little man, your mom is calling you." He says "I know but I just want to have fun at the zoo today." As he ran back to his mom, I said, "So do I"....

....and that's when I decided to spend my day as a child enjoying the zoo...a child with a credit card and without a nagging mom...what a great day to be a kid and forget the world's problems for a little while.

I could spend as much or as little time watching whatever animals I wanted to see. I could buy anything I wanted whenever I wanted...ice cream sounds good...got some...twenty minutes later...ice cream seems good again...it was 95 degrees today...fine, more ice cream. This is how I spent my day as a child with unlimited money.

Here's a great art project with a cause...

...using plastic garbage from the ocean to create art that sheds light on the huge problem of this garbage in the ocean.

The big cats are some of the most beautiful creatures on Earth.

Here's pictures I took while wandering around the zoo for most of the day.

This one is for my polar bear zookeeper, Christy.

A statue of Klondike and Snow

This Okapi was very entertaining and beautiful.

These are artist drawings of the new tiger exhibit currently being built here at the Denver Zoo.

This fish can walk out of the water and live for a short time before needing to return to the water.

I really enjoyed trying to photograph these colorful aquariums and the amazing creatures found under the sea.

I watched these two play and perform with each other while I ate my lunch.

Stellar Sea Eagles...easily the biggest eagles I have ever seen.

Sometimes you just have to remember how great it is to be a kid...and be one for a day.
