Tomorrow is the day that Chicago finds out if it gets the 2016 Summer Olympics. Therefore today is a good day to make Mayor Daley the douche bag of the week. He hasn't done anything specific today to earn this honor. It is a lifetime achievement award for him. He once said he had no interest in the Olympics. But recent events, namely the never ending string of corruption trials involving just about everyone close to him, have forced him to change his mind. My conclusion is he needed a distraction, so he decided to bid for the Olympics. As per usual with anything tied to Daley, the amount of misleading information about who was paying for the Olympics was mind boggling. It started out as not one tax dollar will be spent and ended up as the city of Chicago will guarantee to cover any costs. The city has a huge budget shortage, a public transit system in disrepair, Cook county has the highest sales tax rate in the country, the fire & police departments haven't had a contract with the city for years and 97 Chicago Public school kids have been murdered so far this year. Yes, that number is 97. So forgive me if I don't trust Mayor Daley to do the right thing with all that Olympic money.
