April 23, 2011 What Kind of Deli is This?

Portage Park, Chicago, IL

I've been to a lot of delis in my life, but I've never seen the words organic or Amish on any of them. This one has both. I might have to try this place sometime.

April 22, 2011 Accidental Cool Picture

Hammond, IN

I needed a picture for today and I saw this license plate while picking up dinner at Taco Real. It wasn't until I loaded it that I realized you can see me reflected in the chrome. It made me laugh.

Sunshine...Glorious sunshine...I almost forgot what it looks like because it has been so long since I've seen it.

April 20, 2011 The Incredible Power of Nature

Lansing, IL

The temperature hasn't been above 45 in a week. It snowed two days ago. The nighttime temperatures are around freezing. But the flowers have perserved. I feel like a pussy for complaing about the weather.

April 17, 2011 Productive Weekend

Lansing, IL

It rained all day long yesterday and today was very cold until the late afternoon so I spent all weekend straightening up and inventorying my work van. What else was there to do on another weekend of crappy weather?

April 16, 2011 Goodbye to Cabrini Green

Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL

The city of Chicago is tearing down the last building still standing at the Cabrini Green Projects. Many regarded this as Chicago's worst public housing project but I believe that reputation was due to Cabrini being so close to affluent neighborhoods. I'm sure the city has plans for this prime piece of real estate so it probably won't became vacant land like the former Robert Taylor Homes.

April 13, 2011 A Chicago Icon

Jefferson Park, Chicago, IL

There isn't a parking lot in this city that doesn't have a sign similar to this one. If you have ever parked a car in Chicago, you've seen this sign.

April 12, 2011 It Must Be White Trash Night at the Cell

Bridgeport, Chicago, IL

My first White Sox game of the season. It wasn't a pretty game but the Sox managed to win in the tenth inning on a Alexei Ramirez walk off home run. But that's not what I will remember about tonight's game. I will remember the nearly 20 people sitting in my section just past third base that got ejected by security. I'm sure alcohol was involved in the endless stream of young white trash that offered to kick everyone's ass as they proudly got escorted out by security. And before you Cubs fans start bashing Sox fans, one of the biggest douche bags of the night was wearing an Aramis Ramirez jersey. Apparently the white trash comes from both sides of town.

April 10, 2011 The Aragon Ballroom

Uptown Neighborhood, Chicago, IL

If you are around my age, sliding downhill toward that dirt nap, you remember this shit hole as the Aragon Brawlroom. Hell, I almost died there one night during a Motorhead / Ozzy Osborne concert. This place has been renovated and it is beautiful now. The concert hall on the second floor is designed to look like a Spanish Courtyard and the owners have really cleaned the place up. I've seen some incredible shows here over the years. Smashing Pumpkins, Everclear, Kings of Leon, the Black Crowes and the Replacements are a few that come to mind.

April 9, 2011 The CTA Gave Me an Idea

Uptown Neighborhood, Chicago, IL

I saw this bus and decided to look into a trip to Glacier National Park. Actually that's not true, I've been planning a trip to Glacier/Waterton National Parks for months now. The final plans include driving up to Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay and Banff National parks also. I took this shot because I wonder how many people see this on their dreary daily commute and dream of going there. I also wonder what percentage actually do say fuck Chicago, I'm going to Montana.

April 4, 2011 Blueberry Butt

Sept. 1, 2004  Denali National Park, Alaska

Chrissy nicknamed this bear, Blueberry Butt, because it would sit and eat blueberries all over this hillside. As you can see, it left quite a stain of smashed blueberries.

April 2, 2011 Minnekirken

Logan Square, Chicago, IL

I finally made plans to take my long time friend (I can't call her my old friend she'll get mad), Debbie out for her birthday...over 2 months late. We were early for our reservations at D'Noche so we walked down Milwaukee Avenue to kill time. There wasn't much to see but we did stumble across this Norwegian Lutheran Church known as Minnekirken.
